Policy Statement on Monitoring Judging in National Competitions
CAPA is committed to ensuring the highest standards of judging in its international, national, and zone competitions, as well as recommending to CAPA member clubs that these same standards are applied in their local club competitions.
In order to maintain judging standards and to provide ongoing improvement to its judging system, CAPA is enhancing its methods to ensure judges are:
- 1.up to date with the art and craft of photography today and,
- 2.fully conversant with CAPA’s current judging standards and,
- 3.maintaining those standards in their judging activities.
This applies both to “CAPA Certified Judges” and to “CAPA Trained Judges in Certification Evaluation” [i.e., those who have successfully completed the CAPA Judges Training Course, applied and been accepted to undergo evaluation to become accredited as a certified judge].
As part of this program each judge of a CAPA competition will receive access to an analysis report on both the competition’s results and judges’ scoring, to assist them in self-evaluation of their judging performance. This analysis report will also go to a CAPA Judges’ Monitoring Team. CAPA has a small team of highly experienced senior judges who will monitor the scores and comments by judges, over time, in CAPA’s competitions. As and when warranted individual CAPA Judges will be contacted by the team to discuss their judging performance over time, and whether or not they are reflecting an up-to-date awareness with the art and craft of photography today, are fully knowledgeable with CAPA’s current judging standards, and are maintaining these standards.
